Cloud-based Web Security Best Practices and System Configuration Overview Workshop

• Principles and best practices for cloud-based web security for Research and Education Network (REN) organisations and users
• An introduction to the FIWARE Application Development platform for development of cloud-based network management and security dashboards and other services
• An introduction to Cloud Enabled Security System (CESS) for managing organization-wide web and network policies and access controls
• A discussion forum with invited stakeholders on web security issues

This workshop is conducted as part of the Asi@Connect Distributed and Cloud-based Network Defense System for NRENs (DCNDS) Project funded by TEIN* Cooperation Center and the European Union to facilitate capacity building among NOC operators and network engineers, as well as security personnel to support the effective operation of Research and Education Networks in the Asian region.

DCNDS provides accommodation for 4 days and 3 nights (Check-in March 12th, and check-out March 15th) during the event.

Antriksh Mathur

Antriksh Mathur, an experienced technology specialist with the ability to utilize his extensive knowledge for the business development & solutions support. His exposure and experience on Open Source technology provide the background to contribute and lead for Orange Lab India on FIware technology. Antriksh also contribute to the Orange Research community in several key domains; Digital Emerging Markets, IoT & AI. He is currently working with Orange Labs India as a Senior Architect and Software Consultant where he leads a team of skilled developers. His contribution include the software architectures, validating technology concepts and provide guidances in area such as smart cities, smart agriculture, IoT, Data Shape. In addition, he lead and support several internal activities; Hackathons, Innovation challenges and learning-brainstorm events.

Mohammed F. R. Anbar

Dr. Mohammed Anbar currently serves as senior lecturer at National Advanced IPv6 Centre (NAv6), Universiti Sains Malaysia, holding this position since 2015. He received his PhD degree in Advanced Internet Security and Monitoring from University Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia and the Master of Science degree in Information Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Malaysia. His current research interests include Malware Detection, Web Security, Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Network Monitoring, Internet of Things (IoT) and IPv6 Security. He has taught various Computer Science and IT courses for master and undergraduate programs at NAv6 and School of Computer Sciences, USM and has graduated two PhD students and currently supervising 13 others. Dr. Anbar is a veteran software developer using various programming language for developing desktop, web-based and android applications. He has more than 10 years’ experience in Java programming language. He proved his professionalism in Java programming language by obtaining Proxor certification with rating 2 in 2016. He is also well-versed in many software tools used in his research work such as Wireshark, TCPDUMP/LIBPCAP, Weka, and MATLAB.

Selvakumar Manickam

Dr. Selvakumar Manickam is a senior researcher and software developer and works in the area of Cybersecurity, Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and Machine Learning at National Advanced IPv6 Centre (NAV6), Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has graduated 9 PhDs and numerous masters and undergraduate students. He has given several keynote speeches as well as dozens of invited lectures and workshops at conferences, international universities and for the industry on topics such as Internet Security, Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, IPv6, Machine Learning and Open Source technologies at various organizations and seminars. He also lectures in various Computer Science and IT courses which include the development of new courseware in tandem with current technology trend. Dr. Selva is involved in MyREN (as Working Group head for Internet Security), IPv6 Forum Global (as co-chair for IPv6 Education), committee member or representative at various technical forums locally and globally. Previously, he was with Intel Corporation, Motorola and few startups working in the related area before moving to academia. While building his profile academically, he is still very much involved in industrial projects involving machine learning and data analytics using open source platforms building predominantly using C and Python programming languages. He also has experience building Android mobile applications and web-based applications.

Md. Saiful Islam

Md. Saiful Islam is a professor in the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He obtained his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from BUET, Dhaka in 1989; M. Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Shanghai University, China in 1997 and Ph. D in Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree from BUET in 2008. Presently, he is serving as a Director of IICT, BUET. He has designed, coordinated and implemented various IT projects at national levels and published many articles in peer reviewed research journals. His research interest includes optical network, wireless communication, software engineering and cyber security.  In his long academic career, he has supervised about 40 postgraduate students which results the solution of many real-life problems.

Hossen Asiful Mustafa

Dr. Hossen Asiful Mustafa is currently serving as Assistant Professor at Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Dr. Mustafa received his PhD degree from University of South Carolina, USA in 2014.He has already graduated 7 post-graduate students and currently supervising more than 20 post-graduate students. Dr. Mustafa also worked in the industry in research and development for 5 years and has expertise in systems, security and software development.
